Essential Car Checks before Your Long Trip in Summer
We all want to travel somewhere during holidays every year. Some people want to go during cold days. Some people like to go on long journeys in summer. But we do not think about how to make this journey more safe and comfortable. Especially during these summer days. If you are going on a long journey in your car, then it is very important to ensure that your car is in good condition for the summer. Fluid check: The first thing you should check is engine oil, coolant, brake oil, power steering fluid, and windshield washer fluid. If the level of all fluids appears to be low then you should top it up. You can find all the information about how much oil or fluid is required in your car manual.
Fan Fact: When you travel during summers, the radiator cooling fan needs to work properly to keep the car engine cool. You also need to check whether it is working properly or not. It is very important that the engine of your car does not overheat.
Tires:
Tread Depth: Hot weather can cause the condition of tires to deteriorate. Just take a 10 rupees coin and insert it into the tread grooves on the tire. If you cannot see the top ring of the coin, it means that your tire is in good condition. However, if the top ring of the coin is still visible to you then it means that your tire has gone unsafe. They should be replaced immediately.
Pump It Up: If you want more safety and fuel efficiency, check tire pressure. It is important to have recommended pressure for your car (usually found on a sticker inside the driver’s door) and maintain accordingly, including the spare tire.
Safety First:
Braking System: check your brakes. If there are any signs of wear or leaks or sounds of strange grinding noises when you apply the brakes, then go right away and get the brakes of your car checked by a good mechanic and get them fixed.
Lights Up: It is also very important that all the lights of your car, such as headlights, taillights, brake lights, turn signals, and hazard lights, are working properly. If any light is not working then you should immediately change it.
Wiper Check: If your car’s wiper blades are worn out or damaged, replace them so that your windshield gets cleaned properly every time you operate the wipers and you get optimal visibility.
Be Prepared:
Emergency Kit: When you go on a long journey, you never know when you might need something. Be sure to keep a flashlight, jumper cables, a first-aid kit, non-perishable snacks and water, a basic toolkit, and a reflective vest in your car.
Test the AC: Our journey can never be comfortable without AC during summer days, so definitely check the AC system of your car whether it is providing proper cooling or not.
Bonus Tip: Whenever you plan your trip, get your car checked and serviced by a mechanic before your trip start, especially if it’s due for routine maintenance.
