  • Familiarize yourself with the controls: Before you start driving, it’s important to know where the important controls are, such as the accelerator, brake, steering wheel, gearshift, and mirrors. Make sure you understand how they work and how to use them effectively.

  • Adjust your seating position and mirrors: Adjust the driver’s seat and steering wheel so that you can comfortably reach the pedals and see the road ahead. Adjust the mirrors so that you have a clear view of what’s behind and to the sides of your car.

  • Start the engine: Turn the key or press the start button to start the engine. Make sure the car is in “park” or “neutral” and the handbrake is engaged.

  • Release the handbrake: Once you’re ready to start moving, release the handbrake and step on the brake pedal.

  • Use the accelerator and brake pedals: Press the accelerator pedal to make the car move forward, and the brake pedal to slow down or stop. Make sure to use both pedals smoothly and gradually, rather than abruptly.
  • Use the steering wheel: Use the steering wheel to control the direction of the car. Turn it left or right to change lanes or make turns.

  • Observe traffic laws and road signs: Make sure you’re familiar with traffic laws and road signs, such as speed limits, stop signs, and traffic lights. Follow them to avoid accidents and traffic tickets.

  • Check your mirrors and signal before turning: Before you make a turn or change lanes, check your mirrors to see if it’s safe to do so. Signal your intentions to other drivers by using your turn signals.

  • Maintain a safe following distance: Keep a safe distance between your car and the vehicle in front of you to allow for sudden stops or turns. The general rule of thumb is to stay at least one car length away for every 10 mph of speed.

  • Avoid distractions: Stay focused on the road and avoid distractions such as texting, eating, or adjusting the radio while driving. Always wear your seatbelt for added safety.
